The impressive themed exhibition at the Finnish Glass Museum celebrates the 100th anniversary of the birth of Timo Sarpaneva (1926–2006).

During the exhibition period 25 April–31 December, TV producer Liisa Akimof’s four-part documentary series Sarpaneva and the Sense of Form (2022, dir. Mikko Mattila) can be viewed in the museum lecture hall. The lecture hall is open during the museum’s opening hours, except when it is reserved for other events. The documentary series can be accessed with a museum admission ticket.

Murano – Traditions and Innovations: Murano Glass from 1945 to 1970

April 18–September 20, 2026

The exhibition highlights the flourishing period of Murano glass in the 1950s and 1960s, when traditional techniques and influences from modern art came together. On display are works from some of the most renowned glassworks, such as Venini, Barovier, and Seguso.

THE PERMANENT EXHIBITION

The exhibits on the ground floor display the early stages of the history of glass and provide basic information on glassmaking techniques, including glassblowing, the mechanical production of glass and decorating techniques.

The upper floor of the building is devoted to the history of the Finnish glass industry and products such as bottles, polished crystal and pressed glass. The history of Finnish glass design is divided into sections on the history of serial manufacture, art glass, and glass art.

Kerttu Nurminen: My Nature, My World

Exhibition at Design Museum Iittala hosted by the Finnish Glass Museum

Kerttu Nurminen worked as a designer at the Nuutajärvi Glassworks from 1972 to 2007 and was the last salaried glass artist employed at the Iittala design company that Nuutajärvi was part of.

Nurminen designed many popular tableware items but balanced her commercial work with the many unique sculptures that she created through out her long career.

All about Glass

The functional All about glass exhibition, created in cooperation between the Finnish Glass Museum and Annantalo, Helsinki, introduces glass and its many dimensions.

The Paris edition of the Finnish Glass Biennale offers an international audience the opportunity to experience the main content of the biennale through a satellite exhibition at the Institut finlandais.

The exhibition opens on September 4 as part of Paris Design Week.
