BUBBLE – Captured in Glass

Timo Sarpaneva 100 Years

The centennial of Timo Sarpaneva’s birth (1926–2006) is being celebrated in a spectacular exhibition
at the Finnish Glass Museum in Riihimäki.

In this vibrant presentation of skill and elegance, the core focus is on the traditional method, stick air technique and its artistic variations. The exhibition explores the connection between creativity and innovation, as well as the seamless collaboration between the designer and glassblowers.

The bubble theme is present in one form or another in all the glass works on display. The exhibition guides visitors through both the iconic glass art of the Iittala Glass Factory and the masterpieces created on the island of Murano. It is not only a journey into Timo Sarpaneva’s unique glass art, but also an immersion into bold experimentation, the development of glassmaking techniques, and the craftsmanship of glassblowing.

The exhibition architecture has been designed by Sarpaneva Architects.

The works on display come from the collections of the Finnish Glass Museum, the Collection Kakkonen collection, the collection of the Museum of Architecture and Design, the collection of the Nordea Art Foundation Finland, and private collections.
