Murano – Traditions and Innovations: Murano Glass from 1945 to 1970
Murano glass experienced a period of great flourishing in the 1950s and 1960s.
Artists and designers who did not primarily work with glass created designs for Murano glass factories. They introduced new influences by approaching the material in experimental and playful ways.
The exhibition showcases the wide range of traditional glassmaking techniques alongside influences drawn from contemporary art—
and illustrates the tensions between them. On display are, among others, objects designed by Fulvio Bianchini, Carlo Scarpa, and Ercole Barovier. Well-known glassworks represented in the exhibition include, for example, Venini and Seguso.
The exhibition is produced by the German LWL-Museum Glashütte Gernheim and curated by Italian glass art professor Aldo Bova.
The works on display come mainly from Italian, German, and Swiss private collections.
